PROLOGUE

I already knew that my life was about to take a turn for the worse when I saw the headlines on today's broadcast.

Year 2050

Blossom City, South Korea

WORLD RECORD NEWS: Humanity discovered the ‘World’s weakest Mage in existence’

Dexter Pembroke a grade E with 1 stat.

I became popular all of a sudden, I was known to be the weakest among the weak, I became a laughingstock. An awakener who doesn't know his talent. And so I was given the nickname ‘The Talentless Awakener’ . I was no doubt at the bottom of the food chain and to top it all. I was super broke, having no parents to run to and was left with a little sister to care for.

We exist in a world where Mages and monsters exist. However as bittered enemies, the monsters seek to eat our flesh meanwhile the Mage hunters kill them and make money from doing so.

Mages and monsters had existed decades ago, Monsters came from another dimension through ‘Portal’. These portals released a surge of mana that spread throughout humanity, it affected one third of humanity and then people started experiencing changes in them which was known as ‘Awakening’ it's a stage where a Mage discovered his Talent (magic).

They all awakened with one talent with different levels of potential, which was ranked with grades. Grade S, A, B, C, D and the weakest E which was also very rare. Not all Awakeners were Mage hunters, some decided to live a simple life, others were too scared to fight monsters.

Being an Awakener, not to mention a Mage hunter was a blessing. You receive compliments and special treatment wherever you go, you get paid in millions by the government and you get a lot of valuable items. As long as you have a high grade your future would be guaranteed no matter who you are.

But I on the other hand was the opposite, I had to hide the fact that I was even a Mage, when even the mage academy wouldn't accept me anymore, if there was anything worse than ‘Useless’ that would be me.

Even the mage academy kicked me out.

“I'm going to say this for the last time Dexter Pembroke. I don't want you coming back to the mage academy ever again” The academy master declared.

“What? But why me, why so sudden?” I asked with a shaking voice.

“I’ll be honest with you Dexter, the longest time an awakener had been in the academy before finally becoming a hunter is eight months. But you have been here for five whole years and you haven't made any single improvements. Your stats is immobile, stuck in 1, I'm tired of seeing you everyday!”

“But at least I'm paying for the tuition fee”

“If that's your problem I'll give you a refund, but we don't want people thinking our academy is a joke having someone like you. You may leave” he gestured at the door.

I walked out, hearing the tauntings of the other mages. I think at this point my future isn't guaranteed. I'm just as normal as a regular human, my awakening was a joke.
