Chapter 4

"I can't believe I finally met my father after all this time." Scot expressed the excitement he felt by just meeting him.

Scot and his father were already seated in one of the city's largest restaurants. Scot couldn't believe what he was seeing because everything seemed surreal to him. When the server arrived, Mr. Donald told him to order whatever he wanted.

"S-s-Sir, are you serious?" Scot inquired, his eyes wide open in surprise. Mr. Donald laughed and nods his head.

"You have nothing to be concerned about, make your order, son," his father assured, while smiling.

Scot still couldn't believe what was happening but he knew deep inside of him that something great was actually waiting for him in the form of knowing who his father was.

"Sir, I have a question for you," Scot said, gaining his father’s attention.

While they waited for their order, his father drew his seat closer to him.

"Go ahead, my son," he said.

Scot's finger clapped the table in front of him, his expression lost and perplexed.

"How do you know I'm your son, just like that?" Scot examined the scar on his wrist. "Anyone can have that scar; why are you so certain I'm your son?" Scot inquired.

His father cleared his throat and grinned.

"I gave you that mark when you were just a month old." Mr. Donald took his hand and placed his hand closer to Scot’s so that he can see the similarities clearly. "This isn’t an average Scar, I did it as a symbol of identification with me… shows that you’re my son and I am proud to have you," Scot's father added.

“Look closely, I made it similar to mine because like I just told you, I am proud to have you as my son and I wanted that to be the trademark in our family”

Scot examined both wounds and concluded they were identical. He was amazed but sad at the same time, "But sir..." Scot bared a sad look.

"Call me dad, please," Mr. Donald responded.

Scot was still stunned by what his father said.

"OK d-d-dad," Scot couldn't say confidently because the entire father-son interaction was still a surprise to him.

"What happened between you and my mother, and why did you abandon her?" Scot inquired, his head held high, waiting for his father's response.

Scot's father shook his head then face down, as he remembered Scot's mother.

"I was crazy about Sarah." Scot's father spoke out, a pained expression on his face.

Scot's mother's name was Sarah. She worked as a nurse in one of the town's general hospitals. She was a good woman who was well known in the community for her charity. Scot's parents were the ideal couple. Even when things were bad for Scot's father.

All of this made Scot's father very sad. He retrieved his phone from his suit pocket, opened it, and displayed an old photo of Scot’s mother to Scot.

"As you can see, son, I still have a picture," he explained.

Scot took the phone from his father to properly look at his mother’s picture, and it brought tears to his eyes.

Mr. Donald took his phone from Scot, and stretched handed him his handkerchief to clean his cheeks of the tears.

"Your mother was a good woman, my son, and I have always regretted each day I spent without her," Mr. Donald added.

"But dad, tell me what really happened," Scot inquired, his eyes wide.

"I left, and it was all my fault," Mr. Donald responded.

Scot's father and mother had a rough time in the past, even before Scot was born but they stood together like strong pillars, regardless of what others said. Scot's mother was pitching in with what little money she could get together from the hospital while Scot's father was unemployed at the time, which made things difficult for them. Scot's father was a bright man with many ideas. He approached numerous corporations and organizations with his concept, but he was unable to secure a contract from them.

A month after Scot was born, he received a phone call from a company far away from town, where he applied for a contract. He was invited to attend a meeting. Scot's dad and mother were both overjoyed with the good news, so they began preparing for the journey. Scot's mother left her last savings to his father in order to assist him but before Scot's father left, he carried Scot who was one month at that time and carved a scar on his right wrist as a mark of his commitment to whatever Scot would achieve in the future and also as a trademark for their family.

Scot's father departed town the next day for his conference. When he arrived, his ideas were so good that he was granted a multi-million dollar contract. He was ecstatic and signed the contract without even reading it. He couldn't wait to tell his beloved Sarah the good news. Scot's father was restrained as he prepared to leave. He contacted the company about his restriction and was told that staying in town for a year before departing was part of the contract.

Scot's father was heartbroken, knowing well that he would be unable to return to his wife and son. He wrote letters to his wife, attempting to inform her of the current circumstances and Scot's mother was devastated when she received the latter.

Scot's father's situation improved months later, but he lost contact with his wife and hasn't heard from her since.

After his father had said the entire story, Scot became very upset.

Scot's father held Scot's hand, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"I've been looking for you and your mother for years, but to no avail," Scot dad stated, tears still streaming down his cheeks.

Scot was angry but the past was in the past and since his father already found him, it was the most important thing.

"Don't worry, dad, I understand, however, mum told me good things about you." Scot returned his father's handkerchief to clean his tears.

Scot's statement brightened his father's demeanor, and they both began to smile again when their food arrived. Scot's father immediately began eating, but Scot did not, his father was bothered as to why his son wasn't eating.

"What's wrong, son?" Mr. Donald inquired.

Scot took a deep breath and shook his head.

"Dad, you shouldn't have come into my life right now," Scot remarked.

Scot's father was taken aback by his son's statement.

"What do you mean, son?" Scot's father questioned.

Scot shook his head repeatedly, a mournful expression on his face.

"Dad, I just lost my job today, including my wife and my home," Scot replied sadly.

He told his father everything and told him how he was trying to commit suicide before his car almost hit him.

Scot's father felt terrible for his son after hearing the entire incident, but he encouraged him.

“You have nothing to worry about then, you now know who’s son you are” Mr. Donald said with a smile on his lips.

“Yes dad, I am the son of Donald Frankstien the wealthiest man in the world”

“People will respect you when they know who’s son you are, you deserve the respect” he grinned.

Scot is still getting used to being known as the son of the well-known Donald Frankstien and deep down it do feel good to be known as the son of a wealthy man.

"It's unbelievable." Scot said excitedly.

“But true.” his dad confirmed then brought out five distinct business cards, each with his name written on them.

Time literally stood freeze and Scot was immobile for a while.

He was shocked to see Jason's company when he examined the cards closely.

"Are you the owner of these companies?" Scot asked just to be sure that he wasn't making any silly assumption.

His father gave him a friendly smile.

"Yes, son, have you ever been there before?" Scot's father inquired out of curiosity.

Scot shook his head then let a smile creep on his lips. He wasn’t going to tell his dad anything about how he was badly maltreated while he worked there.

Scot said, "I used to work there years ago and I..."

Scot was unable to complete his statement because his words were interrupted by the phone call of his father.

His father stood to his feet then he informed Scot he had to leave for a meeting, but before he left, he gave Scot his black card to go shopping and one of his cars too.

Scot was very thrilled with all that was happening but still isn’t out of the shock of these new findings.

'What would Scot do with this new life of his?'
