The next day, it was only when the sun was high that they were startled awake by loud knocking. Theophilus, using his spiritual sense, knew immediately who was outside.

It was his mother-in-law, whom he suspected was out of money and here to cause trouble again.

Theophilus dressed and saw Dulcie still asleep, so he quietly locked the door and stepped out.

Knock knock knock!

The knocking grew more insistent. Theophilus frowned and opened the door.

"Theophilus, where's Dulcie?"

Ariel led Riley into the room and headed straight for the bedroom.

"Dulcie is sleeping, don't disturb her."

Theophilus blocked their way, speaking softly.

"What sleep? What is more important, her sleep or the fact that her mother is about to be driven to death?", Ariel glared at Theophilus, then reached out to pull him aside.

But Theophilus didn't budge, his strength far beyond Ariel’s.

"Doesn't the lady understand English? I said Dulcie is sleeping, we can talk when she wakes up!", Theophilus glared at them cold
