Chapter Sixty-seven

“Darling, you're back!" Emily's arms shot up, wrapping around Alex's neck in a tight hug.

Her gaze was locked on his face.

“Did you miss me?” She asked him immediately.

Even though he had a lot going on in his mind, he masked it by forcing a smile out of his mouth.

He then chuckled. “You don't need to go through corners. Just say you missed me because I also missed you.”

She nudged her head. “Hmm…maybe.”

As they sat on her bed, chattering about each other's days, he still hid his emotions—worries.

He had resolved to divert his utmost attention to Santiago, to prove to him that he can never lace his shoes by turning things around, but he didn't know how he could do that as soon as possible, not just for his career but mainly because of Emily.

He couldn't let her get dragged down by his fall.

Emily, oblivious to his turmoil, bubbled with excitement. "Guess what happened today? A stranger at the mall gifted me a hundred bucks!"
