CHAPTER 86

Alex and Andrew trailed behind the maid as she walked ahead of them. They looked at themselves as she walked towards John Davis's room. She looked at them and said nothing. Alex pushed the door open, only to see that his grandfather was still asleep. "Why did you come to raise a false alarm when he is only sleeping?" Alex asked, looking at the girl. Thomas moved closer to John and shook him gently. "Alex, he is dead." He said this, looking at Alex, who stood at the door, not sure what to say. "He can't be," Alex replied, moving closer to the dead body of his grandfather.

Alex was in shock and frozen as he looked at his grandfather's motionless body. His thoughts raced with shock, struggling to grasp the abruptness of the situation. Andrew comforted Alex by placing a supportive hand on Alex's shoulder during this tragic loss. Alex eased himself onto the chair, feeling feeble as he beheld the sole individual who had believed in him and cared for him, now motionless and unresponsive.
