Chapter 7

The senior manager's loud voice grabbed the attention of everyone in the workplace. She dashed down the stairs, breathing heavily like a hound being hunted. Her heels continued to hit each step of the stairway. Her expression indicated that something is amiss and there was trouble.

She immediately gets down and walks towards Scot, who was being held roughly by two security guards as if he was a thief.

"Get your hands off him, you fool," Mrs. Costa screamed at both security guards.

Everyone was confused by what was going on. Scot was released by the two security guards and Mrs. Costa cradled Scot and attempted to straighten him out.

Mrs. Costa implored, her lips shaking in panic, "I'm sorry sir, I apologize sir."

Everyone was stunned. They were all taken aback by the Senior Manager's attitude.

"What's going on?" one of the staff members inquired. Everyone continued to whisper to themselves.

"Why is she calling Scot sir?" Another member of staff murmured.

As they watched Mrs. Costa clean up Scot, everyone was still stunned. They were all waiting for an answer.

"Excuse me, ma'am, what's going on, and why are you helping this miserable man?" Jason inquired, in confusion.

Mrs. Costa threw Jason a dirty look then looked around the other staffs in annoyance.

"What's the matter with you all, Scot is Mr. Donald’s son, the owner of this company and many more" Mrs. Costa yelled.

The room erupted in gasp when she revealed his identity.

"That’s impossible!" Jason exclaimed, his face flushed.

No one believed what Mrs. Costa said because the outcast couldn’t just be the son to the wealthiest man in the world. Jane couldn't say anything due to the shocking revelation.

"Do you mean, Mr. Donald Frankstien?" Jane inquired, her hands crossed above her head, as if she was in dep trouble.

Mrs. Costa responded, "Very true young lady, the only son and heir to his empire."

Jane started to feel uncomfortable with the news, she was rooted to the ground as she looked at Scot who was standing beside Mrs. Costa, looking proud as a peacock

"He warned us that we would regret our actions, but we didn't believe him." One of the employees expressed regret by placing his hands on his head.

"But how true could this be?" Jason inquired.

Everyone was terrified, knowing that their future fate would not be pleasant.

"A while ago, Mr. Donald called and asked for his son, Scot” she explained further to them “He went on to say that the news of what happened here has reached him, and everyone involved will be thoroughly dealt with." Mrs. Costa added.

Every employee, shouted as they fear for their fate and they began appealing for Scot's forgiveness.

Jason was stunned and unable to speak. Jane was also silent as various thoughts ran through her mind.

‘Had I known, I wouldn’t have treated him badly' Jane's inner voice condemned her previous actions towards him.

'Jane, how could you be this stupid?' Jane continues to condemn herself in regret.

Everyone couldn't believe their ears. The foul-smelling and filthy cleaner Scot, is the son of the town's wealthiest man.

Scot looked at each of them and shook his head, disappointed in each of them.

"Never judge a book by its cover," Scot said. He immediately left them and followed Mrs. Costa to where his father was.

As Scot walked away, everyone began blaming each other for what had occurred. Jane approached Jason and inquired about the next course of action.

"Baby, what are we going to do now?" Jason gave Jane an angry expression, as if he wanted to beat her up.

"Who are we?" Jason inquired.

Jane was really concerned by Jason's statement. Her face was red-faced with rage.

"What exactly do you mean, Jason?" Jane demanded fiercely.

Jason walked away from Jane as he continued to ponder what to do next, well aware that his job was at stake. Jane refused to let Jason go, and she pursued him further.

"Why are you following me?" Jason yelled, his rage oozing from every word. He couldn't take the sight of Jane anymore because he felt like she was the source of everything bad that was happening to him.

"Why don't you go plead with your husband to leave me alone?" Jason bemoans. Jane was enraged by Jason's actions.

"Oh, now he's my husband, right?" Jane asked, her face flushed with humiliation and sadness.

Jason left where he was and went directly to his office, while Jane followed behind. Jason was unable to sit comfortably and kept moving from one direction to another.

"How did you get me into all of this?" Jane inquired, her eyes welling up with tears of remorse. She was tired of standing and sat down in tears. Jason had already unbuttoned his suit jacket and undone his tie. He felt uneasy and walked over to Jane's seat then looked her in the eyes.

"What kind of a woman abandons her husband because he is poor?" Jason asked in annoyance.

Jane, feeling insulted slapped him hard before he could finish laughing. The sound was as powerful as a thunderclap.

"You stupid man!" "What kind of man abandons his friend when he is most needed?" Jane responded.

Jason couldn't stop touching his cheek as Jane's slap rang in his head over and over again.

"You stupid woman, how dare you!" Jason became agitated and belligerent.

"You don't deserve anything good, Jason" Jane spat.

"I'm curious to know how he ended up with such a cheap slut like you," Jason said angrily.

Jane felt disgusted with herself. She couldn't take Jason's presence any longer. Her heart was filled with remorse. She regretted ever leaving Scot, and she regretted following her mother's advice. All she could think about was how to get over the embarrassment she had caused herself.

She rose up and walked out of Jason's office. The notion of Scot kept ringing in her thoughts as she walked.

"Will he ever forgive and accept me again?" she asked herself.

'But I still adore him,' she lamented in her thoughts.
